A first take is rarely perfect. Make cuts lets you remove filler words, long pauses and whole sentences just by working with the transcript.

Watch: Make cuts from the transcript (1:17)

Steps

  1. Open a video and select Edit.
  2. Select the video on the timeline, then Make cuts at the top of the inspector.
  3. Select Remove filler words to cut every "um" and "uh" at once.
  4. Select Remove pauses to take out long silences.
  5. To cut a whole sentence, select its timestamp in the transcript, then Remove selection from cut.
  6. Open Cuts to check the segments you're keeping. Nudge any edge by a single frame, or play a segment to hear it.
  7. Select Apply. The video on the timeline is now shorter.

Good to know

  • Colored words are kept. Anything that turns grey is cut. Nothing is deleted from your original upload.
  • Bring something back. Select a cut section and choose Add selection as cut to keep it again, or select Reset in the Cuts list to start over.
  • No transcript yet? You can still make cuts by dragging on the waveform below the video.

A first take is rarely perfect. Make cuts lets you remove filler words, long pauses, and whole sentences, just by working with the transcript. Open the video and select Edit. Select the video on the timeline, then choose Make cuts at the top of the inspector. On the left is the transcript. The colored words are what you keep; anything that turns grey is cut. Select Remove filler words, and every um and uh is cut in one go. Remove pauses takes out the long silences between sentences. To cut a whole sentence, select its timestamp, then Remove selection from cut. Here we'll drop the line about the Starter plan. The Cuts list shows every segment you are keeping. Nudge any edge by a single frame, or play a segment to check it. When it sounds right, select Apply. The video on the timeline is now shorter and tighter. Your edits are saved automatically. Publish when you are ready to create the new version of the video.
